Irma worked as an owner and director of a local childcare center for ten years before becoming a therapist. She had the privilege to work with children and parents, providing childcare services encompassing the whole child. She is a bilingual (Spanish) Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS). She received a Master of Social Work and a Bachelor’s in Family Community Services from East Carolina University. Additionally, she completed specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). She has experience counseling clients across many presenting issues. Still, she enjoys working with clients dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, grief, life transitions, career / vocational concerns, spirituality, weight management and body image problems, and relationship issues. She is passionate about working with children, adolescents, and adults. She provides Christian counseling upon request.
As a therapist, she believes people have deep-rooted aspirations for well-being in many areas of their lives, including emotional, physical, social, and spiritual wellness. She strives to make a safe and trusting relationship with clients so that they can improve in each of these areas and feel more balanced and fulfilled. She collaborates with clients, valuing their unique strengths, interests, and aspirations. Clients learn to develop self-awareness, which can reveal the source of emotional distress, including the pathway to healing it. She also helps clients understand how they respond to stressors. She enjoys incorporating various body awareness techniques into the therapy room, including mindfulness and deep breathing techniques, to help clients identify their strengths and how to use them to transform the areas of their lives that aren't working for them. Clients reduce stress and enhance the quality of life by bringing awareness to life's balance.
She enjoys working out, reading, hiking, gardening, spending time with family and friends, and volunteering in the community in her spare time. She is a member of a local church where she serves in various ministries. She considers it a great honor and privilege to walk with you on your journey towards hope, healing, joy, and growth.
Irma accepts the following insurances: BCBS, and Medcost and private pay.
